Hello all,
I hope everyone is having a good spring and enjoying the weather we have been having. Spring turkey season was good as there were a lot of nice gobblers posted on social media. I hope everyone had a enjoyable and productive season. I had one close encounter, @ 3 yards, with a nice tom but never even drew the bow. Several close encounters with some hens made for some great experience.
The State Championship had a great turnout with some really great scores. The weather cooperated nicely and the volunteers set a nice course. We received a lot of compliments on the ranges. These are the people that make the event happen; Gary Linn, Rik Davis, Bill and Angie Kuhn, George Helms, Greg Szacewski, Doug Orebaugh, Bill Collins, Carolyn Faunce, Dan Davis, Don Brecker, Chuck Deckerhoff, Steve Pate, Charlie Etheredge, Joe Crook, Neil McMillian, Bill Tilly, Bill Barlow, Don Brecker, David Bielawski, George Haseltine, Steve Jordan and Rob and Amanda Mathews. It was also nice that Wayne Carver made it back for the low country boil. We missed him last year and it was great having him back, the shrimp seemed a little sweeter this year. Thank you all!! Speaking of volunteers, our term as directors is coming to end here after the 2020 State Championship. If you are interested in governing the TBOF please get a hold of Rob or myself for more information.
The TBOF will be partnering with Compton Traditional Bowhunters next spring as they bring their Big Game Classic to Gainesville just after our State shoot, March 20-21. Here is the link to their flyer, https://www.comptontraditionalbowhunters.com/events. Bring your archery harvests, (deer, bear and turkey), to get measured and possibly entered in the Compton archives. There will a lot of vendors as well. More information as it comes available. I’m personally really looking forward to this.
The Camp Boggy Creek Workday is Saturday May 25th. We will be repairing some bows, fletching some arrows and some minor repairs on the targets. Boggy Creek provides a nice lunch for us as well. Get a hold of Ray Tarella and reserve your spot(s). I hope to see you there.
Just in case you missed it, TBOF member Ryan Gill harvested a bison with an atlatl this past January. A heart shot at @ 20 yards, most impressive to say the least. He has also teamed up with the Archeological Department at Texas A&M to give real life, primitive hunting information. More information and videos are on his Facebook page at; HuntPrimitive / Gill's Primitive Archery. Awesome stuff and congratulations Ryan.
